Mr. Leo Winkley, Headmaster of Shrewsbury School UK, Visits the Shrewsbury India Campus


We had the distinct honour of welcoming Mr. Leo Winkley, Headmaster of our parent campus, Shrewsbury School UK, on his first visit to India. This momentous occassion marked a significant milestone in the school’s journey as it announced the launch of the Annual Charles Darwin Lecture Series – a platform dedicated to honouring individuals who have made remarkable contributions to the society across various fields.

During his visit, Mr. Winkley toured the campus, interacting with our leadership and the team. He witnessed first-hand the vision and commitment that drives the institution, reinforcing the strong academic and cultural ties between the India and UK campuses.

The Annual Charles Darwin Lecture Series, inspired by Shrewsbury School UK’s esteemed alumnus Charles Darwin, seeks to cultivate the same spirit of discovery, exploration and intellectual curiosity that defined his remarkable life. 

During the inauguration of the lecture series, Mr. Winkley emphasised the importance of inquiry-based learning and leadership in today’s rapidly evolving world. He also unveiled a bust of Charles Darwin, symbolising the spirit of innovation that the school has championed for centuries.

Adding to the significance of the occasion, Mr. Winkley announced the prestigious Charles Darwin Leadership Medal. This prestigious accolade reflects Shrewsbury International School India’s commitment to nurturing future leaders who embody the Salopian virtues of Wisdom, Kindness, Courage, Integrity, Self-Mastery and Spirit. It will be awarded to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and made tangible contributions to the society.

Mr. Winkley’s visit underscores the deep-rooted connection between Shrewsbury School UK and its first international campus in India, further strengthening the school’s mission to provide a transformative education that shapes global citizens and visionary leaders of tomorrow.
